Michael and his partner were excited to share the details of their intimate and spiritual elopement in Rome, a city that played a pivotal role in their love story. Both teachers from a school district outside of Chicago, they lived a happy life with their little dog, Pippin. Their journey together began in the summer of 2010 when they met during Loyola University Chicago’s summer program in Rome. They quickly became friends, bonding over their shared love for exploring the city.

Their friendship deepened during those Roman nights spent talking and wandering through ancient streets. When Michael visited his partner in Chicago the following spring, they realized there was something more between them and began dating. Their shared interests, endless conversations, and similar life goals brought them closer together.

By spring 2011, they were officially a couple and soon after, both pursued graduate studies. After earning their master’s degrees, they moved in together, overcoming personal challenges and growing stronger as a team. Over the years, they achieved many personal and career goals, building a life filled with love, adventures, and mutual support.

Their shared passions for travel, particularly in the Mediterranean, led them to spend their summers exploring Italy and Greece. They loved hiking to secluded beaches, tasting new cuisines, and discovering historical sites. At home, they enjoyed camping, classic movies, and listening to vinyl records.

Deciding to get married was a natural step for them. Their love had only deepened over the years, and they had grown even more compatible, always approaching life as a united partnership. Choosing Rome as their wedding location was equally natural. The city where they first met and fell in love held a special place in their hearts. Returning to Rome for their elopement in Villa Borghese, specially at Diana temple felt like coming full circle, celebrating their love in the place where it all weddings began in Italy.

The love photo session

At Love Gracefully, we are passionate about Love Sessions (with our brand, it’s almost our motto). These dedicated photo shoots offer couples the chance to capture intimate and romantic moments together. Unlike the formal portraits typically taken during a wedding ceremony or reception, a Love Session allows couples to focus solely on each other, expressing their love and affection in a more relaxed and natural setting. For us, this holds deep significance, especially when it comes to vow renewals.

Sometimes, for organizational reasons, we conduct the photo session (which we call a Love Session) before the ceremony. When there are guests, this allows us to choose the best time for the couple’s photo shoot and then have the ceremony right before moving on to a cocktail hour and the evening celebration. This way, the chosen location can be a beautiful hotel with a terrace and a magnificent view (like here, overlooking the gardens of Villa Borghese), and seamlessly transition into the cocktail hour and evening festivities. This greatly simplifies logistics for the family in a city they may not be familiar with. Additionally, guests can explore Rome while the couple has their photo session beforehand and take a bit of rest before the ceremony.

These sessions can take place in various locations, such as picturesque outdoor landscapes, urban cityscapes, or meaningful indoor settings, depending on the preferences of the couple. The photographer works closely with the couple to create a comfortable and personalized atmosphere, encouraging them to interact authentically while capturing candid moments of love, joy, and connection. Love sessions are often cherished by couples as a way to commemorate their relationship and celebrate their love beyond the wedding day itself. The resulting photos serve as a timeless reminder of the emotions and bond shared between the couple, capturing the essence of their love story in a beautifully artistic and heartfelt manner.
When children are present or relatives, we suggest including them at a certain point during the session to capture more natural and relaxed photos compared to the official family photo session after the ceremony.
